In China the first written note on pearls was four thousand years ago. People in China have been collecting, growing, and harvesting pearls for over two thousand years - they have the oldest pearl production tradition anywhere in the world. China was also the first country to develop cultured pearls, around 1082 A.D.

The Chinese have vast watersheds that provide huge breeding areas for oysters, and vast amounts of natural food. In the South, the waters are just the right temperature and salinity to encourage oysters to grow. In addition, China experiences few earthquakes and violent storms, making it a peaceful place for oysters to grow large pearls over a long period of time. The Chinese combine cutting-edge technology with knowledge accumulated over thousands of years to grow the best pearls in the world.
